If you were to read all of the Bible, you would quickly discover a story that is woven throughout its pages. Today, this story still impacts us. This story is the gospel, and the gospel is good news for us. Pastors and theologians describe this grand story in various ways. At Vintage, we explain God’s story using a helpful tool called 3 Circles.

3 Circles

God’s Design

We see beauty, purpose, and evidence of God’s design around us. The Bible tells us that God originally planned a world that worked perfectly—where everything and everyone fit together in harmony. God made each of us with a purpose—to worship and walk with him (Genesis 1:31; Psalm 19:1).

Sin

Life doesn’t work when we ignore God and His original design for our lives. We selfishly insist on doing things our own way. The Bible calls this sin. We all sin and distort the original design. The consequences of our sin is separation from God—in this life and for all eternity (Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23a).

Brokenness

Sin leads to a place of brokenness. When we realize life is not working, we begin to look for a way out. We tend to go in many different directions trying different things to figure it out on our own. Brokenness leads to a place of realizing a need for something greater (Romans 1:25; Proverbs 14:12).

Gospel

At this point we need a remedy. Because of His love, God did not leave us in our brokenness. Jesus, God in human flesh, came to us and lived perfectly according to God’s design. He took our sin, paying the penalty of our sin by his death on the cross. Jesus was then raised from the dead, rescuing and restoring our relationship with God (John 3:16; Colossians 2:14).

Repent & Believe

Simply hearing the Gospel is not enough. We must admit our sinful brokenness and stop trusting in ourselves. We must ask God to forgive us—turning from sin to trust only in Jesus. Believing we receive new life through Jesus and God turns our lives in a new direction (Mark 1:15, Ephesians 2:8–9; Romans 10:9).

Recover & Pursue

When God restores our relationship to him, we being to discover meaning and purpose in a broken world. Now we can pursue God’s Design in all areas of our lives (Philippians 2:13; Ephesians 2:10).

Are you ready to be baptized?

At Vintage Church, we love to celebrate life change. The greatest way we get to celebrate life change is by the way Jesus himself commanded—BAPTISM. Vintage church believes that Christian baptism is a symbolic practice of the church in which believers in Jesus are immersed in water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This initial act of obedience serves as the believer's public profession of faith in Jesus and is an outward symbol of the believers’ forgiveness of sin and new life in Jesus Christ. The act of baptism should closely follow faith and repentance.

Baptism is an essential part of the Christian life. While nothing about baptism saves you, Jesus commands that we be baptized (Matthew 28:19–20). At Vintage Church, we believe that baptism is by immersion, meaning baptism occurs by being placed completely under water and then brought up out of the water. When someone is baptized by immersion it symbolizes several things. First, it symbolizes how Jesus has washed us of our sins. Second, by being immersed and coming up out of the water, baptism by immersion symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. More than anything, when we are baptized, we are identifying with Christ.

Because of the three reasons just listed, baptism is only for those who have repented of their sin, trusted in Jesus, and submitted their life to him. Vintage Church believes that baptism should happen in front of other believers, so we are always ready to baptize someone on any given Sunday!

Does Vintage baptize babies?

No. Christian baptism is a symbolic practice of the church in which believers in Jesus are immersed in water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This initial act of obedience serves as the believer's public profession of faith in Jesus and is an outward symbol of the believers’ forgiveness of sin and new life in Jesus Christ. The act of baptism should closely follow faith and repentance. Because babies cannot place their faith in Jesus, they should not be baptized. While we know that other faith traditions baptize babies, we believe that it represents a different symbol and has a different purpose.

Why does Vintage dedicate babies?

While we don’t baptize babies, we do believe in dedicating them to the Lord. Baby dedication is an act in which both the parents and the church commit to raise a child in such a way that he or she knows that God loves them and has a plan for their life.
