Using Our Gifts for the Body: The Role of Vintage’s Connect Team

As the Connect Leader of Vintage Church, I could not be more excited to have the opportunity to serve alongside our incredible leading servants and vTeams. These people contribute in a very significant way every week and our church could not function without the people that make it happen. Our specific highlight this week is our Connect Team.

Serving in Gatherings

At Vintage, we demonstrate various expressions of the church. One of these expressions is our weekly Sunday Gatherings. The whole purpose of our gatherings is to worship Jesus, grow from His Word, be encouraged and sanctified through fellowship with one another, and connect with those who are visiting for the first time or investigating the faith, with the hope and expectation of salvation and spiritual growth. That being said, our gatherings are extremely significant in the life of our church and our city.

As each of you are aware, there are a lot of details and tasks that have to take place in the life of Vintage Church on a Sunday in order for things to flow smoothly, properly and effectively. Our Connect Team is at the heart of these details. Whether they are greeting people in the parking lot or front doors, making delicious coffee for each gathering, placing cards on the seats, keeping things clean and in order, serving communion, or passing out Bibles and assisting with the offering, you can find each Connect member with a smile on their face. Since I have been overseeing this ministry of our church, I have not heard any complaints or grumbling. I am amazed every week with the incredible attitudes of each Connect member, and their willingness to arrive early and stay late in order to meet the need.

Serving is Biblical

In 1 Corinthians 12, we see Paul describing the body of Christ as it was originally intended. The body of Christ is similar to our own human bodies. Each body part that we have is important in order for our body to function properly. In the body of Christ, the church, each individual is valued and needed for the mission and purpose of God’s kingdom to come into full force. Each gift should be utilized, which takes everyone coming together.

I always think of Colossians 3:23–24 when it comes to serving the Lord. We do not serve for human recognition but to honor and glorify the Lord, knowing that it carries eternal weight and value!

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”

So, we thank each of you who serve our church. A blog post cannot express the true gratitude we have as a church. We hope you are blessed and encouraged when you serve, and you know that it is far more than just a task but an expression of obedience to the Lord and a significant touch to other people. If you are not serving, or never have, please contact me, and we would love to have you bring your gifts to our church! You can email me at mweaver@vcnola.com.
