Defeating Doubt: Is the Bible Reliable in Our Daily Lives?

The Heart-Breaking Reality

The amazing truth about Christianity that sets it apart from other religions and spiritual beliefs is that we serve a risen, resurrected and personal God.

As Christians, we know this to be true in our own personal lives, but to those who are separated from Christ, it means nothing. How could something that is so valuable and essential to us as Christians appear as nothing significant to others outside of God’s Kingdom?

This is a heart-breaking reality to wrestle with as a Christ follower, and it is literally impossible to wrap one’s mind around. I’ve interacted with several atheists within the past year, and some of their main issues with accepting Christianity seem to be the tragedies in this world and the disbelief they have in the Bible.

God’s Word is the Foundation

When it comes down to it, everything that Christians believe centers upon the Word of God. Our beliefs and faith are driven by the foundation of the Bible. We have a firm, strong, and stable foundation that speaks to the beginning of creation and echoes into eternity.

Are there things in the Bible that we have questions about and will never understand? Of course! But this should not stop us from taking the Bible for all that it is worth, and the main reasoning behind this is our personal testimonies. Has Jesus saved you? If so, you can believe His Word, because it does not contradict itself. The Bible speaks to every season, every circumstance in our lives, and every question we may have.

In 2 Peter 1:16, we see Peter writing a reflection to his audience about his encounter with Jesus at the transfiguration:

For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

Have you been with Jesus? If so, God’s Word will and should come alive to you. The same God who inspired your salvation will also inspire the illumination of His Word.

Our Response to God’s Word

Hebrews 4:12 tells us that…“the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

If you are reading this and have a personal relationship with Jesus, know that the Bible speaks directly to you and has the power to pierce through any circumstance or stronghold in your life. If you are skeptical or doubtful of God’s Word, or of God Himself, I urge you to consider and pray. Consider that this is the truth that does not change in the present, past or future, inspired by the only true God word by word. Pray that Jesus would reveal Himself to you, and show you that this is the one and only truth.

Allow the Lord to direct your paths through His Word, and surrender to the only truth that is beyond our comprehension. The Bible holds the words of truth for today and forevermore. It alone is trustworthy!
