Why Change My Name?

 Why Change My Name?

Thanks for visiting my new blog! Why the new blog and even new branding on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc? The first reason for me is simple. Clarity and dependability. I know if you have followed me or Vintage online we seem a bit schizophrenic. To be honest, we are always open to trying whatever to reach whomever for Jesus. All the changes have been our imperfect attempts to reach people. We will probably change again, but I want to make sure that my personal ministry would stay consistent through whatever Jesus sends our way. That is why I am using my name as the brand. I used to be paranoid of people and would end up practicing false humility, but thankfully God has set me free from a fear of man. I know my heart, I have accountability, and I have been given unbelievable grace to serve as Rob Wilton.

The Movement: The Setting of the Book of Acts

The Movement: The Setting of the Book of Acts

We are three weeks into our new series, The Movement. You can watch or listen to the last three sermons HERE. This year Vintage Church is taking a journey through the book of Acts looking at The Movement Jesus began with his church. While we don’t know everything about the early church, we can learn a lot about the church from the book of Acts. The book of Acts is a historical account of who the early church was. This account is a picture of The Movement. To give us a better understanding of the book of Acts we created a small introduction booklet. You can find an electronic version of this book HERE. Over the past two weeks we answered four questions related to Acts. First we answered: (1) Who wrote the book of Acts and (2) When was the book of Acts written? You can find that blog HERE. Then we answered: (1) What type of book is Acts? and (2) Why was Acts written? You can find that blog HERE. This week we are going to discuss the setting of the book of Acts, the time and place in which the events took place.

Help Promote The Movement

 Help Promote The Movement

Before ascending into heaven, the risen Jesus told His disciples that they would receive power and the Holy Spirit and as a result would be launched as witnesses to the ends of the earth. With these words, Jesus launched a movement that would change the world. This movement, called the Church, is unlike all other organizations, institutions, or other causes because the Church cannot fail. Jesus is building the Church and nothing will stop it. He has also chosen you to be involved in accomplishing the fulfillment of what was launched over 2,000 years ago.

2013 Christmas Letter from Pastor Rob

2013 Christmas Letter from Pastor Rob

Vintage Family,

I can’t believe we are wrapping up another year.  This year we have seen people surrender their lives to Jesus and be baptized. We have seen Community Groups multiply, a church planted, and missionary teams sent out across the globe. The Lord is using our church to impact not only the New Orleans region, but the entire world. His faithfulness to Vintage Church is humbling and worthy of all of our worship! I am so thankful to serve as your pastor and be on this ride.

Organizing Chaos: Do I Have Time to Rest?

Organizing Chaos: Do I Have Time to Rest?

A few weeks ago many of you had the opportunity to be a part of our latest Equip training on “Organizing Chaos.” You can find the podcast, notes, and handouts from this event HERE. At this equip training we discussed how life is ridiculously busy and how we are all searching for some sort of semblance of “balance.” However, I shared that achieving balance in life is impossible. We then spent the rest of the evening discussing how to develop a “Rule of Life” to live by (For a great resource on developing your own rule of life check out Steve Macchia’s Crafting a Rule of Life). I shared Peter Scazzero’s definition of a rule of life from his book Emotionally Healthy Spirituality. He defines a rule of life as “an intentional, conscious plan to keep God at the center of everything we do.” We then discussed why a rule of life has everything to do with organizing the chaos in our life. As we closed out the evening we discussed how, when we can keep God at the center of everything we do, interestingly enough, life becomes a lot more organized.

Give Homeless Blankets, Socks, & Gloves

Give Homeless Blankets, Socks, & Gloves

Earlier this year the Lord began to move in the hearts of one of our faithful couples at Vintage. Having heard the phrase “be the church” so often the wife asked the Lord what this would look like for her family and life specifically. The Lord impressed upon her heart the needs of homeless in New Orleans. The husband and wife discussed and felt the Lord leading them to feed the homeless weekly, particularity on Claiborne Ave. under the Interstate. The couple shared with their Community Group how the Lord was calling them to love the city. They began to make sack lunches each Saturday morning. They meet at our Metairie facility at 11am Saturday and carpool together to share food, hope, peace, and prayer with the homeless in our city. Their Facebook is Light of Hope Ministry.
