We are the Burning Ones
/A couple weeks ago during one of Vintage’s weekend gatherings we sang the song “Burning Ones” (Click here for YouTube version). Since then I haven’t been able to get this lyric off my mind, “So let this love be like a fire, let our life be like a flame, fill our souls with your desire, let our passion bring You fame.”
These lyrics struck a chord in my spirit during this time of transition and rebranding in the life of our church, especially the line that says “let our passion bring You fame,” the “You” being Jesus.
I’ve prayed and wrestled with God on the subject of blogging and social media in general for some time now. Social media can be a great tool used to point others to Jesus. It can also be abused and used to try and bring glory to ourselves. For me, God is using the opportunity to blog on the united blog to help cleanse a part of me that creeps in from time to time and wants to make ministry about me.
Life is full of seasons. So for this season in life, my wife, Beth, and I are feeling led to take a step out in obedience to what we believe God is asking of us and to give our creativity in the area of blogging and social media over to Jesus. So for however long God sees fit, we will be blogging on vintageunited.tv/blog along with the other leaders at Vintage Church.
Vintage United is more than just a rebranding. Our staff has caught a glimpse of the powerful force we can be for Jesus when we unite together and this decision is an overflow of that belief.
We hold to scripture that grounds us and to discernment from the Holy Spirit in everything. And the scripture God laid on my heart that I’ll cling to is this: “If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Jesus.” Philippians 2:1-5.
God has done a work in our lives and we believe at this point in time, God is calling our church to unite and take the focus off ourselves in every area of our lives and make the focus about Jesus. We are the body of Christ. We are better together than we are individually. We can accomplish greater things for His name when we are united.
