Special Guest From Israel This Sunday
/Hey Vintage Church Family,
I would like to introduce you to my good friend, Saliba Danho. The picture above was taken in Jericho after a great meal with my dad and Saliba. I can’t wait to be back in Israel in 2015. I will be sharing some more details about this trip on Sunday.

/For several years after moving to New Orleans I romanticized the city and urban living, a classification Tim Keller discusses in Center Church. Although I still firmly believe living in an urban area is the best place for my family, over the past year being exposed to some of the negatives effects has changed this romanticism. One of my biggest reality checks came when it occurred to me that I was in fact a “gentrifier.” It was at that point that my theology, philosophy, and view of the city was rocked.

Read MoreFish II: What and When
/In my first blog, I shared about how Jesus has been challenging me to go fishing. Simply put, fishing is all about sharing Jesus. I wanted to write a follow up blog sharing some more details of what we have been called to share and when we should share the Gospel.

/I remember exactly where I was sitting and what I was doing when I was introduced to the word “gentrification.” As a recent seminary graduate, I was reading A View from the Urban Loft by Sean Benesh. He mentioned it in a way that indicated that every urban student should know exactly what it was and what it meant. I didn’t! So I noted the word and decided I needed to study the topic more.

/Satan has been fishing for a long time. His bait has been distracting followers of Jesus from the clear command Jesus gave 2,000 years ago. Sometimes he uses our theological debates: does Jesus save or does man choose? Sometimes he uses our comfort and prosperity: do we really have to go and share when we have this amazing building, talent, and program for people to come and check out. Sometimes he uses our selfishness: isn’t the church meant for my spiritual growth and entertainment? No matter what he has used in our life, it is extremely clear that we have taken his bait…hook, line, and sinker.
Read MoreThe Movement: 5 Things You Have to Notice in Acts
/We are now over a month into our new series, The Movement. You can watch or listen to the sermons HERE. This year Vintage Church is taking a journey through the book of Acts, looking at The Movement Jesus began with his church. To give us a better understanding of the book of Acts we created a small introduction booklet. You can find an electronic version of this book HERE. Over the past few weeks we have answered several questions related to Acts. First we answered: (1) Who wrote the book of Acts and (2) When was the book of Acts written? You can find that blog HERE. Then we answered: (1) What type of book is Acts? and (2) Why was Acts written? You can find that blog HERE. Finally, we looked at the setting of the book of Acts. You can read about that HERE. This week we are going to discuss the various themes within the book of Acts.
Read MoreNot Another One: Why Parents Have to Trust Jesus
/It has become something of a stereotype in our modern day: young Millennials across America, when asked about their faith, confess simply and unapologetically, “My parents were Christian, but…” The reason varies from person to person, from “I don’t really identify myself with a religious system” to “And then I went to college.” The cause of this epidemic is complex and varying, but it ultimately leads Christian parents to wonder how they can do better and how they can give their kids the greatest gift: a relationship with Jesus Christ. For the Christian, this is a burden much greater than setting up healthy eating habits or paying for college. This is contentment and purpose on earth and community with God in heaven. What greater things could a parent ask for?
