Radical Resilience - Katrina Recovery Reflection

Radical Resilience - Katrina Recovery Reflection

After decades of decline and decay, Hurricane Katrina seemed to be the inevitable end to a once great American city. What has transpired over the past decade—not just in a few New Orleans neighborhoods, but across the whole greater New Orleans region—is an amazing story. At this important milestone, as the nation remembers how far we’ve come since 2005, it is also important to note that in some ways the real work is still ahead in this region's journey towards the next 2 decades. Over the past 7+ years, my family and I have been involved in the recovery in several avenues throughout our city. Most recently, the last few months, Pastor Rob Wilton and I have had the opportunity to serve alongside an organization that is leading the leaders of this region. Michael Hecht and GNO Inc. are a constant motivational voice inspiring our region as we together not only rebuild but reach new heights.

Lead Pastor & vStudents Pastor...Let's do this!!!

Lead Pastor & vStudents Pastor...Let's do this!!!

Marshall has been serving as our Generations Director and has focused on leading and building our vStudents ministry. He has done a great job laying a foundation for our church of the future. Marshall and his family will be leaving us in a couple weeks as he is pursuing God's call to serve with a church in North Alabama. This was as much of a surprise to the Henderson family as it has been to us. The Vintage Pastors have affirmed that Marshall has received a call from the Lord.

Vintage Church exists for Gospel Multiplication. This has been accomplished in many ways. One person telling another person about Jesus. One community group multiplying to start another community group. One location for worship multiplying to two locations for worship. We have also accomplished this vision by sending church leaders around the world. We have church planters, church leaders, and missionaries all over the world that have been SENT OUT by Vintage. We are excited to consider this move by the Henderson family in the same way. Our church not only celebrates our gathering capacity, we celebrate our sending capacity.

So...what about vStudents?

Children Need the Gospel

Children Need the Gospel

The parent/child relationship is a mirror, reflecting to us the relationship between us and our heavenly Father. The writer of Hebrews in chapter 12 encourages the church to endure the race that God has set before us, because "God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?" (Hebrew 12:7). Parenting is a unique opportunity for the parent and child alike to understand symbolically the nature and character of God. Parents provide, love, nurture, discipline, correct, bless, and teach. All of these things are done out of love in hopes that the child will grow into godly maturity.

Offering Our Lives: How the Tabernacle Teaches Us to Worship

Offering Our Lives: How the Tabernacle Teaches Us to Worship

Over the past two weeks, we’ve discovered two truths about the tabernacle: (1) the presence of God dwelt in the tabernacle and (2) God was worshipped in the tabernacle. As a part of that worship, we also briefly discussed how God allowed his people to participate in worship. Building upon the idea of participatory worship, we’re going to delve deeper into how the Israelites participated in worship and what their experience means for us today.

Respond: Music Arts at Vintage Church

Respond: Music Arts at Vintage Church

Highlighted throughout the Bible and so richly painted in the Psalms, we see response to the Lord through musical worship. I recognize that today in most congregational settings guitars, keyboards, and many other instruments have replaced the lute, harp, and lyre, but the Lord’s steadfast love remains the same. Jesus never changes. Yes, He is worthy of all our praise. And we have the blessing of song to usher in that holy praise. “It is good to give thanks to the Lord.”

Intention Sunday will be a great time of reaching people for Jesus through CHANGED and also turning in our MORE INTENTION CARDS. From Tabernacle to Spirit: How We Participate in Worshipping God

From Tabernacle to Spirit: How We Participate in Worshipping God

The word “worship” conjures up all sort of images, experiences, and ideas in our minds. For some of us, the idea of worship takes us back to previous experiences in church. We think about prior worship services we have experienced. This might include the different styles of worship we’ve encountered, including the singing of hymns with a piano and organ or the singing of new, contemporary worship songs with a praise band. Each of our experiences are different and culturally defined. If you go somewhere else in the world, you might experience a very different worship service.
